A Study on Reduced Graphene Oxide in Large-area Transparent Heaters for Defrosting

Transparent heaters are promising devices because of their versatile applications in vehicles, smart windows, and sensors, etc. Indium tin oxide is widely used for transparent heater materials due to its high electronic conductivity visible light transmittance. However, the cost indium too high, fabrication needs sophisticated processes, so that many studies have focused on alternative which inexpensive easy-to-synthesize. Graphene a two-dimensional material carbon atoms bond form hexagonal structure, it can be an superior electronic/ thermal cost-effectiveness. Here, we chemically treated graphite synthesize large-sized graphene (LGO), coated glass substrate, followed by reduction using hydrogen iodide reduced (LrGO) glass. From surface characterizations, confirmed lateral size LGO was over 50 μm sheets were uniformly glass, minimized intersheet contact resistance. Structural characterizations demonstrated LrGO showed transmittance 76.2 % at 550 nm with sheet resistance 0.98 kΩ. Finally, temperature substrate increased up 30 oC when V voltage applied 5 min, frost vanished within 1 min.
